Flxpoint simplifies the process of fulfilling your orders by integrating with ShipEngine—a platform designed to streamline your shipping needs. ShipEngine eliminates the complexities of working directly with carrier APIs and protocols, allowing you to focus on managing your business. With Flxpoint's integration to ShipEngine's API, you can:
Rate Shop: Compare rates across multiple carriers to find the most cost-effective shipping option.
Purchase Shipping Labels: Buy labels directly within Flxpoint, making order fulfillment seamless and efficient.
This integration empowers you to manage your shipping and fulfillment needs from the same centralized platform where you handle your orders. For detailed instructions on setting up a ShipEngine account and connecting it to Flxpoint, please refer to our ShipEngine & Flxpoint guide.
What's Required to Buy a Shipping Label?
Before purchasing a shipping label, ensure you have:
-
ShipEngine Account: An active ShipEngine account with at least one connected carrier account.
-
Package Details:
- From and To Addresses: Required fields include Address, City, State, Postal Code, Country, First Name, Last Name, and Phone.
-
Ship Date
- Items and Quantities: Specify which items and how many will be included.
-
Package Dimensions and (Packed) Weight
- Source Shipping Method Mapping: The source must have at least one shipping method mapped to a shipping carrier that’s connected via ShipEngine.
Purchasing a Shipping Label
Shipping labels are associated with Unprocessed Fulfillment Requests/Orders (FR/FOs). To purchase a label, follow these steps:
- Open the Order: Navigate to the relevant FR/FO.
- Initiate the Process: Scroll to the FR/FO section. Click Actions and then Buy Shipping Label.
- Required Field Validation: Upon opening, the flyout automatically verifies that all necessary shipping address fields are filled. If any are missing (Address, City, State, Postal Code, Country, First Name, Last Name, Phone), error messages will be displayed until they are corrected.
- Insurance Options: A new insurance section appears under the line items:
- Default: “No insurance required” is pre-selected.
- Available Options: Choose between ParcelGuard (the existing option) or Carrier Insurance.
- Declared Package Value Handling: The “Declare Package Value” field automatically calculates as the total of all line item costs multiplied by their quantity. If the user changes this value after rate shopping, the previously selected carrier/method is removed—forcing you to re-select a shipping option before the label can be purchased.
-
Package Selection & Delivery Section:
- Mandatory Package: A package must be added before checking shipping rates.
- Dynamic Updates: If the package is removed, the system clears the selected carrier/method, delivery confirmation, and estimated rate.
- UPS Specific: Selecting the “Delivery Mailed” option for UPS will add an extra $2 to the estimated rate.
After the flyout appears:
Review & Edit Address Details:
- The "From" Address automatically populates with the Source Address (editing here updates only the label).
- The "To" Address automatically populates with the FR/FO Shipping Address (editing updates only the label).
Set Shipping Date & Auto Create Shipment:
- The shipping date defaults to the current date but can be modified.
- Optionally, enable auto-creation of a shipment using the tracking information on the label.
Line Item Quantity:
- Select the quantity for each line item. Items with associated weights will contribute to the package weight estimation.
- You may remove entire items or adjust quantities as needed.
Enter Package Details:
- Total Weight is automatically calculated (sum of line item weights plus any additional package weight).
- Select or add a package by clicking Add Package.
- Upon package selection, total weight and unit are recalculated as needed.
Select a Default Carrier Package:
- The source must have a shipping method connected to a Global Shipping Carrier Method.
- Once a carrier is chosen, select the associated package. Alternatively, create or reuse a custom package via the Custom Packaging tab.
Check Rates:
- After entering all shipment details, click Check Rates.
- Flxpoint will rate shop for available Global Source Shipping Methods and return multiple rate options (if applicable).
- Select your desired shipping method by clicking Add Method.
Add Insurance & Delivery Confirmation:
- Optionally declare a package value to enable insurance (handled by ParcelGuard).
- After opting in or out of insurance, select a delivery confirmation method.
- Note: The Estimated Rate displayed does not include carrier-specific fees.
Finalize Label Purchase:
- Configure the label size if needed (default is 4"x6").
- Click Buy Shipping Label to review a preview screen before purchase.
- Upon purchase, a confirmation message appears and you’ll have the option to select a label format (PDF, PNG, or ZPL) to attach to your FR/FO.
Managing Shipping Labels
After purchasing a label:
View & Download: Access your label via the Manage Shipping Labels action.
Voiding Labels: You can void a label if needed. A “Label Purchased” badge appears on your FR/FO, and void actions are logged in the Order Status History.
Attachment: To attach a label (for email integrations), use the Add Attachment option.

To bulk print shipping labels:
- Navigate to Orders → Fulfillment Requests.

FR Workflow Rule Examples
Automate Shipping Labels Notifications
The automation of a shipping label may fail if errors are encountered during the rate shopping or shipping label purchase process. If this occurs, you will see an error notification displayed on the fulfillment request. You can also view the fulfillment request logs for more information on the error.
Enable Automate Shipping Label Failure Notifications
We recommend enabling notifications for when an automating shipping labels purchase fails. To do so, please follow these steps:
Global Settings Gear → Notifications → Enable Automate Shipping Label Failure Toggle. Once enabled, you will receive an email notification if the shipping label automation fails.
Automated Fulfillment Request Strategy
Automate Package Attachments
Enabling Automate Package Attachments will allow Flxpoint to automatically send shipping labels and/or packing slips along with the respective fulfillment request.
To enable auto attaching packing slips and/or shipping labels to the fulfillment requests:

- Select fulfillment requests
- Select strategy
- Click on the toggle to enable auto-attachment
Limited Support: Auto-attachment is only supported for file-based, HTML, or PDF integrations.
Automate Fulfillment Tracking
Enabling Create Shipment From Shipping Label will allow Flxpoint to automatically create a shipment after a shipping label is auto-purchased and the Fulfillment Request is processed or acknowledged.
Manually Purchased Shipping Labels Not Supported: Create Shipment From Shipping Label will not apply to manually purchased shipping labels.
Adding Custom Messaging to Shipping Labels
To add custom messaging:
- Navigate to Global Settings → Orders → Shipping Labels.
- Enable the SHIPPING CARRIER CUSTOM LABEL FIELDS toggle.
- Map Flxpoint fields (e.g., Fulfillment Request Number, Order ID, Order Reference Number) to carrier-specific fields.
Note: Carrier field limits apply; values exceeding limits will be truncated.
Flxpoint Pro Tip: Adding Rules: Rules can be configured on each field to add additional data or modify the mapped value.
Character Limits: Any values exceeding the character limit will automatically be truncated upon label creation.
Shipping Labels & the Vendor Portal
If you are utilizing the Vendor Portal, you may now allow your ShipEngine integration to be shared with vendors so your vendors can create shipping labels directly from the Vendor Portal.
To enable shared ShipEngine access:
